Abstract

Disclosed is a non-periodic appearing design which when reproduced is a periodic array. The method consists of editing a photograph using an editor such as GbmV2 which runs under OS/2*. A small portion of the photo is expanded many times, typically ten or more times. The result is an array of random seeming squares, each square representing a pixel of the original photo. This array of squares, when reproduced in a rectangular pattern, as is done to create a background for a World Wide Web page, produces a large pattern in which the smaller array of squares cannot be distinguished. Variations on the method will yield arrays of rectangles instead of squares. * Trademark of IBM Corp.
