Radio Frequency Identification Tag Application for Tracking Vehicle
Refueling, Maintenance, and Theft

Disclosed is a method to make refueling a vehicle and paying
more efficient.  Tracking the maintenance done on a vehicle is made
easier.  Locating a stolen vehicle is also facilitated.

Put a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag near the fuel
tank filler tube of a vehicle.  Put a small "hand held" size RFID tag
reader on the fuel hose nozzle used at a gas station.

The RFID tag could hold such information as:
  o  Type fuel vehicle uses
  o  Credit card number
o  Type of oil the vehicle uses
  o  Payment type
o  Date and amount of last fuel added to tank
o  Average miles per gallon of vehicle
  o  Vehicle Identification Number
o  Max. usage of fuel/day allowed (set by owner of vehicle)
o  Communication with vehicle's on-board computer could be
      facilitated

When the user wants to refuel their vehicle, they simply do the
same thing they do today, except they do not have to manually process
a purchase transaction or handle a credit card at the pump.  While
the fuel nozzle is in the vehicle's filler pipe, the vehicle's RFID
tag is being read and written.

The following functions would then be enabled:
o  The proper fuel would be put in vehicle.
o  The cost of the fuel would be automatically charged to the
proper account.  The customer would not even have to handle
      a credit card.
o  The proper selection of motor oils could be offered to the
      customer.
o  Mileage can be estimated and appropriate mainte...
