Virtual Personal Shopper

Disclosed is an intuitive user interface mechanism to
facilitate personalized shopping in an on-line virtual shopping
environment, using a virtual agent that is intelligent about the
consumer inventory and personalizing presentation.

The virtual shopper facility would enable the user to obtain
suggestions for gift ideas using personal parameters.  Instead of
wading through complete store inventory looking for an idea, a user
can submit, for example, a request for a Mother's Day gift for a
mother-in-law, between 30 and 50 dollars and list her interests.  The
personal shopper would come back with suggestions of what is
available in the shopping environment.  The agent could be a
representative of a  specific store or could be a representative of a
store with more diverse  inventory or even a complete mall.

In addition to receiving a list, the user may be given a
personalized book with high resolution pictures and descriptions, as
well as the nearest location where the items may be seen.  The
shopper could ask the agent questions as with a real salesclerk.  The
personal shopper agent would have enough information about the
inventory and have enough background information about the related
products to answer  questions and facilitate buying.
