Abstract

Recently, a polymer alignment layer exposed to a polarized Ultra Violet (UV) light has been demonstrated for the alignment of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) (1). The polarized UV light alignment method is supposed to give a zero degree pretilt angle or very low pretilt angle. The experimental result shows that the lower pretilt angle that a two-domain LCD panel fabricated by the parallel fringe-field method (2) has the better domain divisions of its pixels are. Therefore, it is a good combination of the parallel fringe field method and the polarized UV light alignment method to fabricate the two-domain LCD.

Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) (1).  The polarized UV light alignment
method is supposed to give a zero degree pretilt angle or very low
pretilt angle.  The experimental result shows that the lower pretilt

fringe-field method (2)  has the better domain divisions of its
pixels are.  Therefore, it is a  good combination of the parallel
fringe field method and the polarized  UV light alignment method to
fabricate the two-domain LCD.

      In this disclosure, a combination of the parallel fringe field
method and the polarized UV alignment method is proposed to fabricate
two-domain LCDs for viewing angle improvement.

      In addition to the polarized UV light alignment method, another
method which generates a zero or very low pretilt angle, such as

Lanqmuir Blodgett film alignment method, can also be combined with
the parallel fringe field method for making two-domain LCD panels.
