Abstract

Disclosed is a cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) for a backlighting unit of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). By reducing the thickness of the glass bulb from 0.3 millimeter (conventional design) to 0.2 mm, its efficiency improved by four percent.

Bulb Thickness

      Disclosed is a cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) for a
backlighting unit of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).  By reducing the
thickness of the glass bulb from 0.3 millimeter (conventional design)
to 0.2 mm, its efficiency improved by four percent.

The following table shows the specification of the newly developed
CFL:

A comparison measurement has taken place in terms of the following
three items:
  1.  Lamp efficiency
  2.  Backlight unit efficiency
  3.  Easiness of dimming control

The following result was gained:
  1.  Lamp efficiency increased by 4.0 %

      Newly developed 23,690 (cd/m2 x mm / W)
      Lamp efficiency was measured according to following equation:
      (Luminance)x(Inner diameter)/(Power) (cd/m2 x mm / W)
  2.  Backlight efficiency increased by at least 8 %
