Protective Head Actuator Cover/Mitten

3570 head in the head actuator assembly is subjected to damage
due to handling during manufacturing, testing and shipping.  The
damage will occur to the head via the air bearing surface and the
head cable.

This invention describes two methods to protect the
magnetoresistive head from damaging via either Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD), mechanical or manual handling.

1.  Cable mitten

These two envelope-like ESD bags are used to protect the
high sensitive extremities of the head cable, where conductors
are
exposed to the outside.  Any excessive triboelect discharge due
to handling will damage the MR head assembly.  An ESD bag is
applied
to provide an envelope-like protection to the head cable.  The
envelope provides a good fit to the cable so that it provides
good
mechanical, as well as Electro static, protection to the cable
cable
and the head.  The envelope has uneven edges for ease of opening.

2.  Head actuator cover

The orange color cover slides easily over the actuator base
and azimuth arm to provide complete coverage of the head within
the head actuator assembly.  The cover is made of slightly
tapered
interior for ease of installation, snug fit and ease of removal.
