Write Operation Positioned with Another Head

      Disclosed is a hard disk drive which adopts magnetoresistive
head and the sector servo can position a head of which the
magnetoresistive strip does not function properly using another head.

      When a magnetoresistive strip of a head does not function
properly, it can be recovered by applying write-current into the head
(dummy write operation).  The head must be positioned precisely
during the period in which write-current is applied.  However, the
head cannot  be positioned during dummy write operation because the
sector servo uses  a head both for head positioning and for
read/write operation.

      To avoid this dilemma, another head can be used to position the
malfunctioning head.  The area to execute dummy write operation must
be designed with enough margin to permit the tilt between heads.
