Abstract

Disclosed is a method to balance a carriage Assembly (ASM) which has a preamplifier module (AE module) on it. The AE module side of the carriage ASM is generally heavier than the other side (opposite side of AE module) from the balance point (to pivot shaft center) of the view. To improve the unbalance, this design method utilizes an optimum location of the Voice Coil Motor (VCM) coil cross point which is produced in the coil winding process.

Balanced Carriage Assembly

      Disclosed is a method to balance a carriage Assembly (ASM)
which has a preamplifier module (AE module) on it.  The AE module
side of the carriage ASM is generally heavier than the other side
(opposite side of AE module) from the balance point (to pivot shaft
center) of the view.  To improve the unbalance, this design method
utilizes an optimum location of the Voice Coil Motor (VCM) coil cross
point which is produced in the coil winding process.

      In the coil winding process, a wire cross point (overlapped
point) is produced when finishing winding a layer and moving to next
layer.  At the crossover point, the length of the wire in the leg
becomes longer; therefore, the coil side with the wire cross point is
wider and heavier than the other side of the coil.  So, the wire
cross point is positioned on the opposite side of the AE module to
improve the balance of a carriage asm.

The method requires no additional parts/process.
