Turbulent Enhancement for Pin Fin Heat Sinks

      Disclosed is a method of enhancing the heat transfer
performance of pin fin heat sinks in either cross-flow or
impingement-flow mode.

      This disclosure presents a method of providing thermal
enhancement to existing cross-flow pin fin heat sink (1) or
impingement pin fin heat sink (2) by the addition of a turbulating
wire mesh (3).  For a cross-flow heat sink, the wires are laid
perpendicular to the  flow direction at the trailing edge of the heat
sink.  For an impingement  heat sink, the wires are laid
perpendicular to the exhaust flow at the  perimeter of the heat sink.
The wire mesh is placed in an interwoven pattern through the pins.
The mesh can be either metal or plastic.
