Abstract

This disclosure describes the replication method of attached data on a database system. It replicates data body only and does not generally replicate attached data and the attached data that is gotten from original site. If the attached data is accessed frequently from a remote site, it is automatically replicated to the site. The attached data of the remote site will be erased when it is not accessed frequently.

Replication Method of Attached Data to Reduce Network Traffic

      This disclosure describes the replication method of attached
data on a database system.  It replicates data body only and does not
generally replicate attached data and the attached data that is
gotten from original site.  If the attached data is accessed
frequently from a remote site, it is automatically replicated to the
site.  The attached data of the remote site will be erased when it is
not accessed frequently.

Data body is always replicated and the replication of attached data
is based on the following rules:
  o  User can specify the minimum size.  If the attached data is
      larger than the minimum size, it is not replicated.  If it
      is accessed from a remote site, the data is sent from the
      original site and access counter is increased.
  o  User can specify the number of accesses.  If the access
      counter becomes larger than the number of access times,
      it will be replicated to the remote site at midnight.
  o  User can specify the number of days to expiration.  The
      replicated attached data maintains the last accessed date
      and, when it is expired, it will be erased.

      It can be applied to any database system and groupware
application, such as Notes*, which has a replication mechanism.  The
attached data is image, movie, voice, application data, large
document, any binary files, etc.
