Field Definition by Viewing Data and Mouse Operation

Disclosed is a method for defining fields or columns of a file
or a database with easy and exact operation.  The proposed method is
based on mouse operation by viewing the content of a file or a
database.  This avoids simple mistakes and time consuming work.

The Figure shows an example of operation to define fields or
columns by:  (1) Select start column of a field by pressing the left
mouse bottom.  (2) Drag mouse to end column of a field.  (3) Bar is
drawn to identify the field, and defined field is colored to
distinguish other  fields or columns.  Field start and end position
are specified by mouse  operation.  Other information, like field
name or attribute, is defined  on a pop-up window by double clicking
on the field and viewing content  assists defining this information.

This user interface is not limited to field definition of a
file or a database, but it is applied to a word processor to define
format of a document by viewing the content.
