Load/Unload Suspension Assembly with Load/Unload Tab by Coining Press

      Disclosed is a load/unload tab surface treating method of a
suspension assembly used in hard disk drives.

      Recently, load/unload has become a key technology in the hard
disk drive business.  From the load/unload control point of view,
friction force between a ramp and load/unload tab should be small and
stable.  In order to reduce/stabilize the friction force between a
ramp and load/unload tab, it is a good approach to make the
load/unload tab surface smoother.

      Generally, current suspension manufacturing facility uses a
press process when load/unload tab is formed.  By changing this
process from the current one to a coining process (controlled excess
press forming), smoother surface of load/unload tab can be achieved
without any  cost impact.  The difference between normal press
forming and coin press  forming is the thickness of the material
after press forming.  Normal press forming does not reduce the
thickness of the material on purpose.  On the other hand, coining
press forming does reduce the
material thickness a little bit.   By doing this process, peaks of
the surface roughness are flattened and a smoother surface on
load/unload tab can be obtained.
