Media recording tools such as Adaptec, Roxio, and Nero have gained popularity and wide acceptance as users take advantage of the technology and affordable media (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, etc.) to copy data; whether it's burning user's favorite music/video/movie or backup important files to be retrieved at a later time. Media recording software has offered made data recording from computer simple for users and continue to appeal to larger audience: The available recording speeds of 52X CD writer and 8X DVD burner have drastically lowered the time required to perform media recording, and intelligence in these program to automate tasks such as prevent buffer overrun and provide intuitive navigation tips have reduced recording to as few as a single click.

However, currently when a user records anything onto media (e.g. CD-RW) the original file attribute setting is not persistent. For instance, files with attributes set to writable would be converted to read-only when recorded onto a compact-disc, so when a user copies the file(s) from CD media onto a Hard Drive (HD) he/she is required to manually update the attribute to the original setting, which is cumbersome and can be time-consuming. Therefore, there exists a need in the art to have a method in recording software to enable persistence of original file attribute across media.
