In Plane Switching Mode Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display
with Pen Touch Positioning Function

      This disclosure describes the structure of an integrated Pen
Touch positioning function device for an In Plane Switching (IPS)
mode Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD).

      Fig. 1 shows the structure of a color filter.  The color filter
substrate has an Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) layer on the opposite side of
the color filter's color resist layer.  This ITO layer has a mesh
pattern on the display area (high resistance positioning area) and
the peripheral  area (low resistance area as compensation resistor).

      Fig. 2 shows the configuration of the position-sensing
device.  An electrical signal from this patterned ITO layer is
detected by a stylus (pen) and calculated by the position of the
stylus.
