Cartridge Door Opening Apparatus for Tape Drives

An apparatus for opening a Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) door
inside a tape drive is disclosed.

As shown in the Figure, a plunger (1) which is spring loaded
into the chassis or equivalent (2) is positioned to act as a
stationary piece for a small cartridge and as a plunger for a large
cartridge (3).  This plunger opens the door in the same manner for
both cartridges.  It springs out of the way when the large cartridge
creates an interference as it protrudes further into the drive.
