Abstract

Disclosed is a method for improving the JES operator's awareness of a downloaded job on Printing Systems Manager (PSM) for AIX* and the PSM operator's awareness of the JES job. The job download facility discussed here is the MVS Download facility (MVSDL), which is a feature of PSF/MVS.

Job Visibility between Multiple Virtual Storage and Printing Systems
Manager

Disclosed is a method for improving the JES operator's
awareness of a downloaded job on Printing Systems Manager (PSM) for
AIX* and the PSM operator's awareness of the JES job.  The job
download facility discussed here is the MVS Download facility
(MVSDL), which is a feature of PSF/MVS.

The method for making the AIX/PSM job ID known to the JES operator
is:
  a) The MVSDL client gets jobs off the JES spool and transmits them
      to an AIX file system.
  b) After each job is successfully transmitted, the MVSDL server
      invokes a shell script.
  c) The shell script maps JCL keywords to PSM parameters and submits
      the job to PSM.
  d) The shell script creates a file (jobname.jobid) in the current
      directory.  The file contains:
     a) a PSM-assigned job ID if the job submission is successful, or
      b) a '-1' if the job submission fails.  In this case, the shell
script also creates a log file (jobname.log) which contains
         the error message(s).
  e) The MVSDL server returns the contents of the job ID file to the
MVSDL client and then deletes the file, if the file exists.
  f) The MVSDL client releases (purges) the job from JES spool.
  g) The MVSDL client issues a message to SYSLOG to display:
     a) If the job submission was successful (PSM job ID > 0), the
