Parameter-Specific Exercising of Hardware Devices

A method to exercise/verify specific features of hardware
I/O is disclosed.  This is accomplished by a menu-driven tool which
provides a way to set hardware parameters which are then used to
invoke a datastream which is sent to the device.

The AS/400* Device Exerciser is a menu-driven tool which allows
service personal a method to exercise hardware devices.  There are 2
paths which can be followed:
-  A primary path which exercises the hardware using defaults, and
-  A secondary path which allows the user to exercise specific device
functions

This secondary path can be accessed off the Work with Device
Exerciser screen by choosing Option 2 to change parameters.  If this
is done and parameter defaults are changed before option 1 to start
is selected, the parameter specific exerciser will be started.  See
Fig.  1 for details.

Depending on the device selected, various parameters can be
exercised.  These parameters are characteristics supported by some
models of this device.  An example is the Change Display Default
screen shown in Fig. 2.  It allows the user to select if they want to
run in wide screen mode (132 columns) or color.

If no options are changed, the device will run with the
defaults.  If a default option is changed when the exerciser is
selected to run, the program will select to run the specific
exerciser which supports that feature.  If the option w...
