Endless Ribbon Distribution Devices

Disclosed are two processes to insure uniform
distribution of endless ribbons in a ribbon cartridge during the
insertion operation.

Process #1 - A reciprocating air cylinder striking the end or
bottom of the cartridge on the end opposite the drive gears will
provide a uniform distribution of ribbon throughout the cartridge.

The vibration generated by the air cylinder causes the ribbon
to flow in reasonably equal loops through the cartridge eliminating
ribbon packing and gear jams.  Tests were performed using air logic
to rapidly cycle the air cylinder at approximately 30 strokes per
minute.

Process #2 - A vibratory unit positioned in a central location
on the cover or base of a ribbon cartridge will provide equal
distribution of the ribbon in the cartridge during insertion.
