Abstract

Disclosed is a method for determining distribution of zinc or magnesium ions on the surface of a substrate which may be rubber, plastic or a metal. The method involves immersing a substrate in a solution of 0.1% Savinyl Blue GLS* (Trademark of Sandoz Chemicals) (phthalocyanine dye) in acetone for approximately 20 seconds followed by rinsing the substrate with acetone. The surface is then examined with an optical microscope. The areas stained with the blue dye contain zinc or magnesium ions.
