Abstract

Solderable pins are selectively connected to a high voltage (VDD) or ground side of a double-sided printed circuit board. This customized pin array is pressed into contact with tester board terminals to supply power and ground to appropriate board-to-module connectors, thus modifying the board for testing a different integrated circuit module part number. Time and cost of designing and making new tester boards for each part number is saved.

Programmable Power And Ground Interconnection Method

      Solderable pins are selectively connected to a high
voltage (VDD) or ground side of a double-sided printed circuit board.
This customized pin array is pressed into contact with tester board
terminals to supply power and ground to appropriate board-to-module
connectors, thus modifying the board for testing a different
integrated circuit module part number.  Time and cost of designing
and making new tester boards for each part number is saved.

      One pin and board design of this type is shown in the figure.
Integrated circuit module pin 10 requires ground potential and pin 12
requires VDD.  Pins 10 and 12 from circuit module 14 are plugged into
power connectors 16 and 18 in tester board 20.

      Ground potential is carried in patterned conductor 22 on power
customization board 24.  VDD is carried in patterned conductor 26 on
board 24.  Both conductor patterns 22 and 26 may be pre-tinned.
Ground pin 28, which has a press fit in the hole through insulating
center 30 in board 24, is inserted from the top side of board 24
until locating shoulder 32 seats on insulating center 30 of board 24.
Shoulder 32 has a smaller diameter than an opening in conductor 26,
assuring that there is no contact between pin 28 and VDD conductor
26.  Conductive washer 34 is soldered to make connection between
