Spring-Loaded File Protect Sensor

Sensor adjustments, adjustment tools, and the potential
of detecting incorrect file protect status of 3480 magnetic tape
cartridges are eliminated by detecting the cartridge write-inhibit
feature as specified in American National Standard X3.180-1990.

In the figure, the relationship between the front reference
surface 1 and write-inhibit surface 2 of the 3480 cartridge 3 is
specified by American National Standards. The spring loaded
registrating bracket 4 registers against the front reference surface
1 when the 3480 cartridge 3 is in the loaded position.  File protect
sensor 5, being mounted to the spring-loaded registrating bracket 4
in a predetermined position, senses the write-inhibit surface 2
status.
