Shell Datum Locater

Disclosed is a tool designed to aid in establishing the
dual-axis centerlines of a tapered cavity.

                            (Image Omitted)

Accurate and fast determinations of internal tapered surfaces 4
of shells 5 are accomplished by use of the disclosed locater 9 which
could not be done via conventional methods, such as a Granite Surface
Plate, Height Gage, Dial Indicator, etc.  The Shell Datum Locater 9
has eliminated this problem by having one end 10 machined to
precisely fit the taper 4 of the shell 5 and the protruding end 20
machined to a rectangular shape.  By taking readings off of the
rectangular portion 20 in each axis, centerlines are quickly and
accurately established.
