      Some drawer-mounted electronic equipment may include
Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) which can be inserted into receiver
cavities which supply electrical connections and air cooling to the
CRUs.

      The article describes a cooling method in which the flow of
cooling air through a rack-mounted unit is restricted not only by the
CRUs but also by a bulkhead behind them.  By matching the slots in
the bulkhead with those in the CRUs, and placing vanes between CRUs
and intake louvers the impedance of any one of the passages is not
greatly affected by removal of one or more CRUs.  Thus, an adequately
balanced and satisfactory airflow is achieved without resorting to
higher powered and noisier fans.

      Fig. 1 shows the layout of electrical equipment with relation
to air flow from fans 1 in this case two drawing external cool air
from louvered grill 2 through cavities in this case 4 CRU1-CRU4
designed to hold customer replaceable units.  The CRUs generate heat
that requires cooling from air entering from the RHS and leaving from
the LHS through a bulkhead 3 into the fan space 4 from which it
passes through two grills 5 across the LHS area 6 of the chassis
which houses other supportive electronics.  In this case power
supplies, logic and circuits with which the CRU's interface,
