Multi-Purpose Plastic Tray for Plastic Flat Packages

Disclosed is a plastic tray for holding plastic flat
packages with gull-wing-type leads, which is adaptable for different
types of packages having leads of different shapes.

Fig. 1 shows how package 10 is placed in the prior-art tray 12.
Walls 14 and 16 act as references for package positioning.  The
package 10 is put in the cavity of the tray 12 such that leads 18
on one side contact the wall 14 and slide down the wall surface.  As
the package 10 is lowered, lower edge 20 of the package 10 comes to
just fit the second wall 16, thereby guiding the package in place.
The prior tray has the limitation that it can not be used with other
types of packages having different lead shapes.

Figs. 2 and 3 show improved trays designed to solve the
problem.  In Fig. 2, the wall 14 is modified to have nearly vertical
wall portion 14' which provides clearance for accommodating different
types of packages.  In Fig. 3, the tray is formed to include slots
with nearly vertical walls 14' and 16'. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the
present tray which can hold twelve packages.
