Abstract

Disclosed is a method to completely enclose the chassis or frame of a desk top computer with conductive material, making continuous contact to contain electomagnetic fields. The chassis 2, which mounts all of the components, together with the chassis cover 1 form this type of enclosure. Simplicity of installation and removal is featured to allow access for upgrading and service.

Access Cover for EMI/EMC Containment

Disclosed is a method to completely enclose the chassis
or frame of a desk top computer with conductive material, making
continuous contact to contain electomagnetic fields. The chassis 2,
which mounts all of the components, together with the chassis cover 1
form this type of enclosure. Simplicity of installation and removal
is featured to allow access for upgrading and service.

The chassis cover makes conductive contact through the spring
fingers 1A around its mating perimeter with the formed surfaces 2A of
the chassis stamping.  The pressure to ensure this contact is
provided by the center post 4 and thumbscrew 5, placing the cover in
a slightly concave condition.

The chassis enclosure is then installed into an outer cover 6
which is the cosmetic covering for the unit.  The front and rear
bezels, which complete the outer cover, do not necessarily have to be
conductive material since the containment has been provided by the
chassis and its cover.
