Simultaneous Descaling and Polishing of Ni-Pd-Be Connector Alloy

      In metal manufacturing operations, the parts are subjected to
heat treatments at elevated temperatures under which heat scales are
formed. Typically, these scales are removed after each heat treatment
using mechanical abrasion or mechanical abrasion and soaking in hot
inorganic acids, bases or salt.

      Disclosed is a novel chemical formulation and process for
simultaneous descaling and polishing of the nickel-based alloy, at
the end of heat treatment operations.  The chemical formulation
consists of the following:
           MATERIAL/ REAGENT               CONCENTRATION
           Oxalic acid                     20  g/ liter
           Hdroxyacetic acid              400  ml/liter
           Phosphoric acid                400  ml/liter
           di water                       200  ml/liter

      The acids are added to agitated water in the manner they are
listed in.  The operating conditions are 60-70 degrees centigrade and
5-10 minutes of treatment time.  A final rinse in distilled water is
necessary to remove residual acids.
