Cooled High Temperature Coating Tower Coating Nozzle

      Disclosed is a device for cooled delivery of coating
suspensions to the coating zone of a high temperature coating tower.
A cooling jacket is added to the existing coating nozzle and a water
inlet and outlet system to this cooling jacket is added to the
tower's coating zone.

      Fig. 1 shows a coating nozzle 1 with a cooling jacket 2 with
air and paint inlets 3.

      Fig. 2 shows the mounted nozzle with the cooling jacket 2,
paint supply 4, and air supply 5.  A water supply 6 is coupled to the
cooling jacket 2 as is a water return 7.

      The coating zone of a high temperature coating tower is
maintained at or near the curing temperature of the coating solids
being used in the coating process.  Coating quality depends on
delivery of a homogeneous coating suspension to the nozzle to be
air-atomized before entering the coating zone.  During the coating
operation, cooling the nozzle base prevents build-up of solids in the
coating suspension delivery lines and insures homogenity and
stability of the coating suspension.

      Cooling the nozzle base also prevents heat transfer to the
atomizing air delivery system so that coating suspension atomization
can take place without flashing.  As a result, the coating process in
a high temperature environment is improved as are the types of
coating suspension materials that can be used for coating in high
temperature environments.
