ImageBuilder: Fully Automated Process to Build AIX Installp Images

      Disclosed is a method that completely automates the process of
building AIX* installp image for a Licensed Program Product (LPP)
given just one single prototype file.  The program dynamically
creates the required control files of the installp image.  The final
installp image  is also built and the product is ready for install.
Even the prototype  file can be created automatically.

      An installp image of an LPP is a backup of a tree structure
that is a mirror of the desired structure of files to be installed on
the target machine.  Some basic control files that carry all the
information about the files in the LPP are included in the image.

      The manual process of building the installp image would involve
creating the tree structure, editing information into the control
files, and finally making a backup image.  This process would become
all the more laborious if files have to be added/deleted from the
product.

      With the ImageBuilder method, a file called the prototype is
first created that contains all the information about the tree
structure and the files and directories of the LPP.  It also contains
information about the package name, the fileset names and source
directories of the  files on the build machine.  The lines in the
prototype file would read  thus:
