Abstract

The device shown in the figures is a strain relief for fiber-optic cables that requires no tools to install and assemble. In Fig. 1, plate 1 is provided with a hole 2 and slots 3, and is used as a mounting surface for bottom strain relief 4. With the bottom strain relief mounted on the plate, multiple fiber-optic cables 8 (Fig. 2) are passed through the hole in the plate. As shown, the strain relief contains four cables; it can be designed to contain from one to four or more cables. The fiber-optic cables are then clamped in place with top strain relief 5. Ribs 6 are molded into the top strain relief to add stiffness to this part. I the configuration shown, a radius 15 is provided on the bottom strain relief.

bottom strain relief mounted on the plate, multiple fiber-optic
cables 8 (Fig. 2) are passed through the hole in the plate.  As
shown, the strain relief contains four cables; it can be designed to
contain from one to four or more cables.  The fiber-optic cables are
then clamped in place with top strain relief 5.  Ribs 6 are molded
into the top strain relief to add stiffness to this part.  I the
configuration  shown, a radius 15 is provided on the bottom strain
relief.  The  radius has two purposes: to turn the fiber-optic cable
exiting the machine down towards the floor and to prevent damage to
the fiber-optic cable if the cable is pulled downward with excessive
force (e.g., during installation).  The strain relief can be designed
to mount in any orientation, from passing the cables downward as
shown to passing them upward, and any angle in between.  The radius
can be designed for any angle of exit, from straight through (no
turn) to 900 degrees (as shown) or greater, with a radius of any
dimension, as required.

      No tools are needed to assemble or disassemble the strain
relief.  Hook 7 (Fig. 1) secures the bottom strain relief when
