As shown in
the figure, a pneumatic cylinder (1) actuates a
hard rubber plunger (2) upward/downward to turn air flow through a
base plate (3) on/off. For clarity, the valve is shown open with the
plunger up. In this position the air flows from inside the
accumulator (7) through the base plate (3) into the chimney (6).
When the value is closed the plunger (2) is down, the air flow
between the accumulator (7) and chimney (6) is stopped, and there is
vacuum pressure (4) pulling on the back of the piston (5).
(4) is turned on and off by a solenoid valve (not
shown) which is timed with the plunger movement. The base plate (3)
is used as a manifold to bring pneumatic lines to the cylinder (1)
which is inside the pressurized accumulator (7).
