Electronic Packaging for Laser Printers

Disclosed is a method for packaging the electronics in a laser
printer which eliminates the complexity and high cost of current
products.

The figure describes a method to eliminate cabling by directly
connecting circuit cards and machine components in a compact table
top laser printer.

The AC voltage card 1 contains the necessary connectors 2, 3
and 4.

Control panel assembly 5 plugs directly to connector 4.

High voltage power supply 6 attaches directly through connector
3.

System card 7 connects by means of connector 2.

Special connector 8 allows the laser printhead 9 to be
disconnected as machine cover (not shown in the figure) is raised.
This action breaks electrical power to said printhead, eliminating
the need for laser safety shrouds and hardware.  Cabling through the
cover pivot is also eliminated, greatly reducing parts count and
machine assembly time.

Connector 10 allows machine options to connect directly to
machine power control systems.
