One-Piece Elastomer Seal

Disclosed is a device for sealing the hat to the
substrate in a multi-chip module.

The present seal design is the three-piece construction shown
in Fig. 1 where the metal spacer is required in order to span the
distance between the surfaces to be sealed.

Disclosed here is the one piece construction shown in Fig. 2
wherein the elastomeric sealing material is molded around a metal or
plastic frame.

The advantages of this construction are:
Accommodates a wide gap between sealed surfaces.
        Minimizes permeation through the seal.
One piece makes for easier handling.
The rigid construction is easier to handle.
The rolling and pinching of a conventional O-ring are
        eliminated.
