6000-Sheet Capability Dual-Offset Stacker

      Disclosed is a design for a high-capacity output stacker
for use with a page printer.

      A two-tray system, shown in Fig. 1, is elevated up and down by
independent lead screw drives and rotated to one of the four
positions by two torque bars.  The torque bars are powered by
magnetic clutches (Fig. 2) and two reversible motors (not shown)
which are timed and controlled by tray full and prints present
switches for each tray.  To achieve good stacking, each tray is
adjustable to handle various size prints.  Downhill stacking against
the tray walls is required to contain the output when trays are
rotated and moved to various positions.

      One tray is rotated to a position from which it can be unloaded
while the printer continues operating by automatically switching to
the extra tray.
