Abstract

This article describes a functional enhancement to the Print area of IBM's OS/2* Office Program Product. The concept involves giving the end user the ability to select specific print jobs to go into "hold" status upon arrival within an OS/2 Print Manager queue. End users gain this ability through an optional checkbox selection on the "Print/Plot" review options dialog box.

Print Selection of "Hold Job" From Print/Plot Dialog Box

This article describes a functional enhancement to the
Print area of IBM's OS/2* Office Program Product.  The concept
involves giving the end user the ability to select specific print
jobs to go into "hold" status upon arrival within an OS/2 Print
Manager queue.  End users gain this ability through an optional
checkbox selection on the "Print/Plot" review options dialog box.

Currently, print jobs resulting from an OS/2 Office print
action attempt to create hardcopy immediately upon entering a Print
Manager queue.  OS/2 Office does not currently provide the ability to
hold a queue or print job. End users must currently make use of OS/2
Print Manager which is sometimes difficult due to real-time
constraints.

This invention involves an application passing an argument to
the OS/2 Print Manager during print job creation.  This argument
causes the newly generated print job to be placed in "hold" status
upon its arrival in a print queue.  Only those jobs arriving in OS/2
Print Manager queues can be placed on "hold".  One or more of the
previously created jobs can be released from "hold" status via the
OS/2 Print Manager actions (Job, Release Job) or (Queue, Release all
jobs).  The jobs may also be individually cancelled.

Give the end user selection ability within the current OS/2
Office "Print/Plot" dialog box.  This dialog box is normally
encountered by the end user immedia...
