Controlled/Buffered Downpressure Tool Holder

      Disclosed is a Tool Chuck/Holder designed to control or
buffer the downpressure exerted upon the work surface being
addressed.

      The device shall consist of a precision collet/tool chuck
encapsulated within a precision housing, as shown in Fig. A.  The
collet/ tool chuck shall travel axially within the precision housing,
within a controlled distance "b" (Fig. D).

      Within this travel distance, the collet/tool chuck shall be
subject to either a constant or variable downpressure exerted by
mechanism "c" (Fig. C).  Mechanism "c" could be either:
           1.  Spring/Mechanical Advantage.
           2.  Hydraulic Cylinder/Mechanism.
           3.  Pneumatic Cylinder/Mechanism.
           4.  Fixed weight/mass.

      The collet/tool chuck shall have no radial movement with
respect to the precision housing;  this is assured by guide pins or
splines (Figs. A and B) The collet/tool chuck and precision housing
shall rotate as one body.  The guide pins/splines shall ascertain
that the collet/tool chuck remain within the precision housing (Fig.
D).

      The precision housing shall have a precision shaft with the
same axial centerline as the collet/tool chuck within. The shaft
diameter is to be determined in conjunction with the tooling machine
into which it will be inserted.
