Remote Keyboard Connector Unlocking Device

This article describes a button device which allows a
keyboard connector with locking wings to be fastened deeply into a
product.

With some products there is no room for the connector to extend
beyond the product.  The device disclosed herein makes it possible to
squeeze locking wings (that are out of reach of human fingers) to
unlock a male connector from the female, and also act as a guide to
direct the male connector into the female.  This device may also be
used in products where there is no room for human fingers to squeeze
the locking wings of similar connectors.

Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the
device showing the male connector engaged with the female.  Fig. 2 is
a top detail view showing the device squeezing the locking wings of
the male connector.  Fig. 3 is a top detail view of the device
showing the male connector locked into the female.  In operation the
device is positioned within a channel and is pushed.  The fingers
slide against the walls of the channel and are pushed in toward the
center of the channel by a radius wedge (Fig. 2).  This inward
pushing of the fingers squeezes the locking wings on the male
connector as it is fastened to the female at the end of the channel.
With wings squeezed in unlock position, pulling the cable will
release the male connector from the female.
