Joining of Graphical Collections

Provided is a graphical technique for joining collections of
objects in order to overcome problems with current implementations.

The user is provided with a system for creating, editing, and
viewing collections of objects, e.g., icons representing individual
objects and collections of objects. The user is also provided with
capabilities for dragging one collection to another, temporarily or
permanently joining two or more collections, an icon representing
joined collections, and the capability of undoing the join operation.
Properties of the operation include indication of where the joining
operation is to take effect, the direction of ordering of sub-objects
in the joined collection, and a wrap point for cyclical movement
through the collections.   The net effect is to allow treating
multiple collections of objects as a single entity.

The benefits of these techniques to the end user include new
functionality, improved usability, easy to learn techniques, and
reduced user worksteps for managing collections of objects.
