      A program is described which parses Document Interchange
Architecture (DIA) Interchange Document Profile (IDP) data
interchange units (DIUs) and produces a clever human readable format
of the IDP information found.

      IDP information consists of attributes associated with
distributions which govern the way said distributions are managed
among systems as well as describing characteristics of the
distribution. Distribution management problems are often caused by
inconsistencies between the way systems handle IDP information,
coexistence of systems supporting different releases of IDP protocol,
coexistence of systems which differ in IDP implementation or
capability, and simply program- caused errors in the IDP information.
It is important for efficient problem diagnosis when troubleshooting
problems at customer sites, system test labs and development unit
test environments. A tool is needed to facilitate troubleshooting
distribution management problems. A tool which thoroughly and
conveniently produces the contents of an arbitrary IDP into an easily
comprehensible human readable format is needed. Furthermore, a tool
which interrogates and properly reports on an IDP directly from a
file, OS/2* EAs, a variety of communications traces and memory
buffers in arbitrary National Language Support environments is most
powerful.

      The present invention parses an architected DIA data stream and
produces a formatted dump of the IDP. The IDP information is nested
