Abstract

This article describes the "Some" operation for a filtered list of X.400 mail. This "Some" is powerful in that any number of attributes may be used in the filter and does not require the user to memorize the values for the attributes.

Filtered List of X.400 Mail by Some

      This article describes the "Some" operation for a
filtered list of X.400 mail.  This "Some" is powerful in that any
number of attributes may be used in the filter and does not require
the user to memorize the values for the attributes.

      In OfficeVision/2* (OV/2), users may list mail items in the in-
basket by the use of "Some" under the "View" pull-down menu.  The
listing of mail is limited in that only one attribute is allowed in
the filter.  For example, the user may request that all mail items
from a certain person be listed rather than listing all "new" mail
items from that person.

      Another problem is that the user has to know the valid values
of the attribute that he has chosen.  Suppose the user wishes to list
all new mail, the user has to know the correct value to use for the
status attribute.

      The EUI for "Some" that we propose is shown in Figure 1.  The
screen consists of an "attribute" drop-down combination box, a choice
of relational operators, a "value" drop-down combination box, and a
"criteria" list box.  The criteria is a conjunction of conditions.
For example, the user may wish to list all new mail from Wade.  The
criteria consists of two conditions:
             status = unopened
             originator = wade
Each condition consists of an attribute, a relational operator, and a
value.

      A number of pushbuttons are available to the user:
