Abstract

This article describes a method for which an OS/2* Office printer template will initially have defined a connection to the system defaults. OS/2 Print Manager allows default settings for a queue and a printer. OS/2 Office should attempt first to print to the default queue and, in the absence of a default queue, to the default printer. OS/2 Office printers created with the template and left with the default connection value of "Use template value" will print to one of the current system defaults depending on which is available, queue first and printer second. When either system default is changed, all printers connected to the template value make use of the new default value.

system defaults. OS/2 Print Manager allows default settings for a
queue and a printer. OS/2 Office should attempt first to print to the
default queue and, in the absence of a default queue, to the default

the new default value.

OS/2 Office printers attempt a connection first to the system
default queue and, failing that, to the system default printer. If
there is no system default queue or printer a message box is
displayed giving indication of the failure to make a useful
connection. When the system's defaults are changed, the printer
template also changes and, therefore, all printers using the template
value to specify their own connection.

The device property panel for a printer template is to have a
third radio button labeled "Use system default value". Selection of
this control indicates that the queue name or printer name specified
as the application default within the OS/2 Print Manager is
requested.  Printer instances ha...
