Abstract

A technique is disclosed for allowing the on-line documentation (a "help" file) associated with a computer program to be modified whenever the program itself is modified.

This text was extracted from an ASCII text file.
This is the abbreviated version, containing approximately 100% of the total text.

Automatic Code Creation

A technique is disclosed for allowing the on-line
documentation (a "help" file) associated with a computer program to
be modified whenever the program itself is modified.

Referring to the figure, when a textual modification is made to
the help file 10, the file is then processed by a conversion utility
20 to produce corresponding source code 30.  This code 30 is included
in the program source code 40 and the composite code is compiled by
the compiler 50.  The result is executable code 60 which includes the
updated help function.

The technique can also be used when existing program code is
converted for use under a different operating system.  In this case,
the existing help file is converted as described above to new source
code which can be included in the program source code to be compiled
under the new operating system.
