Surface Mount Discrete Sense Switch

An arrangement is described and shown in Fig. 1 that can detect
and verify that a surface-mounted discrete element is present or
missing off of an electronic card.

Electronic card 1 is pressed in place on fixed supports 3 by
pressure P.  The surface-mounted element 2 pushes down a
non-conductive barrel 5.  The barrel 5 pushes down spring-loaded
probe 7 and opens the conductive path between probe 7 and barrel
block 6.  Support block 8 is a non-conductive material and base 9
mounts the assembly.  The opening of the circuit indicates the
presence of a surface-mounted element 2.  Item 4 retains the barrel
5.

The switch device can be mounted in a 1/10-inch grid.
