Tool Operated Limited Access Book Latch

Described is a book latch modification that eliminates toolless
operation of book latches by untrained presonnel.

Described is a simple modification to the book latch which
would then require a tool to be used to open the latch during book
removal.  This modification removes the present finger operable lever
from the positive latch hook.  (See Fig. 1.)  A tool target or lift
sleeve is then added to the top of the hook (see Fig. 2) to receive
the end of a tool, such as a screwdriver or rod.  A tool access hole
is added to the book engagement lever through which the tool is
passed prior to entry into the tool target.  This hole functions as
the fulcrum or rotation point during operation of the positive latch
hook.  This hole can be specially shaped to reduce the number of
potential tools that can be used to open the latch.

To operate the book engagement lever, a tool is inserted
through the hole in the face of the book engagement lever until it
seats in the tool target or lift sleeve.  The handle end of the tool
is pressed downward, thus lifting the positive latch hook, allowing
rotation of the engagement lever which disengages the book.
