Precision Load/ Unload Mechanism

      Illustrated in the figure is a tooling used to load and unload
test heads on a single disk test stand.

      The figure shows the block 1 with the scissors arms 2 mounted
on the side.  The scissor's arms 2 are spring loaded by springs 4 for
the unload position and are activated by motors 5 and cam 6 which are
monitored or precise load/unload by the potentiometer 7.  The
potentiometer gives a corresponding voltage per angle, thereby
providing an encoder-type device.  The set screws 3 provide an
adjustable hardstop so that overtravel cannot be achieved.

      In use, the head arms are inserted into the block 1 when the
heads are in the unload position.  Spring plungers 8 hold the head
arm in place without the use of tools or other manually adjusted
devices.  The head loader is then brought out over a disk 9 and the
heads can be independently loaded or unloaded on the surface for
testing.
