Abstract

A method for color expansion BLT processing is described which is useful for font image mapping to All-Points-Addressable (APA) based on the processing diagram. This graphics controller can handle a coloring operation when the monochrome image is transferred to APA. This operation is performed practically in the font image mapping operation.

Graphics Controller for Color Expansion

      A method for color expansion BLT processing is described
which is useful for font image mapping to All-Points-Addressable
(APA) based on the processing diagram. This graphics controller can
handle a coloring operation when the monochrome image is transferred
to APA. This operation is performed practically in the font image
mapping operation.

      The Foreground and Background Color Registers store the color
of the images. There is no need to do more than fill in all bits
into Foreground and Background registers. In case of 4 bits per
pixel, bit 0 through bit 3 are valid and the others are ignored. The
"Select, Copy" circuit makes up for the information of ignored bits.
Both APA and system memory are selected by "MUX 1". The image is
stored in either APA or system memory. This graphics controller can
take in the APA monochrome image for color expansion.

      The APA monochrome image is placed in none displayed APA area.
The color image is treated as a packed color. The color image can be
transferred to APA in quantities of three sizes (4, 8, 16 bits per
pixel).

      "MUX 2" chooses effective 16 bits data from "Latch 1".

      "FM" (Format Modifier) exchanges between the Intel format and
Motorola format. Bus size adaptation is done by "Rotator 1" and
"Select,Copy" section. The operation controller defines the rotation
value dynamically. The coloring circuit colors the monochrome image.
