Cylindrical Lens Angle Measurement System

      Disclosed is a system for measuring the cylinder angle of
a cylinder lens using the reflection pattern. The technique is widely
applicable to any cylinder surface with optical flatness for
measuring cylindrical axis with high precision.

      The technique will be best understood with reference to the
figure which schematically shows a reflection pattern and how it is
used in accordance with the technique. The light source 1 has a small
beam diameter compare to measuring cylindrical radius and the beam
must be parallel light. The light source 1 is always the He-Ne laser.
The irradiation light 2 goes to cylinder surface 3 and reflects. The
reflected light 4 goes to the screen 5 and shows the reflection
pattern 6. The reflection pattern 6 is orthogonal to the cylinder
axis.

      Finally, the measuring angle of the reflection pattern
indicates the certain axis of the lens by a non-contact measuring
system, as determined by the above technique.
