Dynamic Packaging of Template Extraction Files From New Icons Folder

This article describes a method for OS/2* Office to
provide a convenient way for the user to automatically copy files
related to particular classes/templates to a specified (or default)
subdirectory for easy porting of templates from one user to another.
These related files may include property files, data files and
instance files.

OS/2 Office will add a menu item to the New Icons Folder CLASS
pulldown called EXTRACT. If the user selects the EXTRACT menu item, a
dialog box appears.  The contents of the EXTRACT Dialog box will
include a list box for CLASS NAME, a list box for TEMPLATE NAME, an
ORS file name entryfield, and an extract subdirectory.

If the user has no objects selected in the New Icons Folder,
the class list box will contain an alphabetical list of all classes
registered with OS/2 Office.  The user can select a class name from
the class name list box and all of the class's associated templates
will be listed in the template name list box. If the user has one
object selected in the New Icons Folder, the associated class name is
selected in the class list box and an alphabetical list of all class
templates is displayed in the template name list box. The template
name associated with the selected template is selected in the
template list box.  Non-selection or de-selection of all templates
from the template name list box allows automatic extraction of all
templates associated with the class name(s) selected in the class
name combo box.

The user can use the extract subdirectory to specify a
subdirectory to copy the selected class/template's associated files
to.  The EXTRACT dialog code would copy the files (specified in the
new flat ASCII ORS extraction file) into this subdirectory (including
the flat ASCII ORS extraction file itself), during the processing for
the EXTRACT dialog.  During creation of the flat ASCII ORS extraction
file, all related files, (including template data files, property
files, and instance files) for each template are also copied to the
specified EXTRACT SUBDIRECTORY.  The flat ASCII ORS extraction file
is also written out to the specified subdirectory.

Dynamic packaging of EXTRACTed class and template files will be
very useful to the OS/2 1.2 Office user for several reasons.
Currently, users have to be very technically knowledgeable to be able
to port OS/2 Office templates from one user to another. Even, if they
are willing to port the whole New Icons Folder from user to user,
they must know enough to copy all of the following: the correct INI
files, the ENTIRE New Icons Folder subdirectory, the ENTIRE property
file subdirectory, and the ENTIRE instance file subdirectory.  Use of
the new EXTRACT dialog's EXTRACT SUBDIRECTORY field provides users
with a simple, non- technical method of packaging AND porting
PORTIONS of the New Icons Folder from one user to another, simply by
using...
