Packaging Template Extraction Files Using OS/2 Office Registration

This article describes a method for OS/2* Office to
provide a convenient way for the user to package files related to
particular classes/templates in a specified subdirectory for easy
porting of templates from one user to another.

Currently, there is no batch utility that can be used by vendor
applications, user applications, or internal OS/2 Office applications
that can package files related to particular classes/templates in a
specified (or default) subdirectory for easy porting of templates
from one user to another.  These related files may include property
files, data files and instance files.

The OS/2 Office Batch Registration Utility, ORS.EXE, should be
modified so that it can copy files that are related to a specified
class/template (including the flat ASCII ORS extraction file itself)
into a specified (or default) subdirectory during an extraction.

ORS.EXE will provide the "/extract" and the "/subdir"
parameters.  Syntax of the ORS.EXE command will be:
ORS extract.ors /extract=newfile.ors /subdir=d:\xtrctdir
where extract.ors is a flat ASCII, user-supplied ORS input file that
specifies the standard OS/2 Office ORS keywords and syntax to
indicate which class(es) and/or template(s) that information will be
extracted for.  This file may or may not be fully qualified.  The
"/extract" parameter specifies the name of the ORS file to be
generated and the "/subdir" parameter specifies the subdirectory to
place the related files.  If a subdirectory is not specified, the
default subdirectory will be the current subdirectory.

OS/2 Office Batch Registration utility, ORS.EXE, was created to
allow OS/2 Office registration of a broad variety of class and
template information through the use of a simple flat ASCII file
containing recognized keywords and their associated keyword
information.  ORS.EXE allows rapid duplication of many OS/2 Office
classes from one user to another and reduces user errors caused by
incorrect keyboard input.

Packaging of EXTRACTed class and template files using ORS.EXE
will be very useful to the OS/2 1.2 Office user for several reasons.
Currently, users have to be very technically knowledgeable to be able
to port OS/2 Office templates from one user to another.  Even, if
they are willing to port the whole New Icons Folder from user to
user, they must know enough to copy all of the following: the correct
INI files, the ENTIRE New Icons Folder subdirectory, the ENTIRE
property file subdirectory, and the ENTIRE instance file
subdirectory.  Use of the new ORS batch registration parameters
provides users with a simple, non- technical method of packaging AND
porting PORTIONS of the New Icons Folder from one user to another,
simply by using the ORS batch registration utility with the newly
generated flat ASCII ORS extraction file and all of the
class/temp...
