Graphic Drop Down Controls

Provided is a technique for providing increased graphic
and visualization support for user interfaces in order to overcome
deficiencies with conventional approaches of data visualization.

Conventional user interface controls are provided, e.g.,
drop-down controls.  However, the following extensions are provided:
O    Display graphic devices in the drop-down control, e.g., value
sets, sliders, etc.
O    Interaction with the graphic device can be via the mouse or
keyboard
O    Selection of a parameter in the graphic device automatically
enters its value in the field of the drop down
O    Similarly, typing information in the field automatically sets
its value in the graphic device

An example of the application of the Graphic Drop-Down Control
is in setting the start time of a calendar event. Selection of the
drop- down control results in displaying a clock in the drop-down
menu.  The user can set the start time on the clock, and the time is
input to the start time field.

Benefits to the end user include new functionality, improved
mouse interaction to set parameters which typically are set via
keyboard, reduction in mouse-keyboard transitions by users, reduced
worksteps, and improved usability and consistency with other uses of
graphic controls.
