Head Arm Level Electromagnet

The illustrated tooling represents a head-arm level
electromagnet design used to preform bulk and or specific erase
fields across rigid magnetic media.

The figure shows the magnet arm 1 which has the insulated wire
2 wound on both sides of the long extrusions. The rear portion of the
arm 1 has the tapered ends of the common test arm style.  The design
mimics the dimensional characteristics of the common test arm,
thereby allowing it to be used as a replacement.  In operation, the
scanner centers the gap over the track to be written and tested, and
provides the erase field.  This arm can then be traversed across the
disk to allow total disk erasure or multiple track coercivity
testing.
